Rated 5 out of 5 by from Doubles as Supplemental Aquarium Filter I bought this filter with the intention of using it with my aquarium as a supplemental filtration system. I found that the system was easy to hook using some 1" PVC pipes, 2 threaded male-type adapters, and PVC primer and cement. It works surprisingly well. The filter's tank is about 11 inches in height, and at the top, its outer diameter measures about 6-1/8 inches. The tank is made of very, very thick plastic (about 3/4 in. thickness, in fact). Even when emptied of water, the tank and lid are much heavier than one might expect. The tank is really durable, too. I can be klutzy, and I accidentally dropped the filter tank onto a tiled floor on two different occasions: To my surprise, the tank was not at all damaged by these falls. The screw-on lid this system uses features a push button to release pressure from inside the filter, by the way. That has come in handy a few times, too. Both the inlet and outlet on the filter tank's lid are threaded female-type connections, should anyone need to know this before purchasing. I have my filter connected to a homemade undergravel system, which I made of PVC, and it includes an in-line, submersible fountain pump. Dirty water goes into the pump and is piped through the filter system. The filtered water's clarity and quality were immediately evident, and I dare say, they were even impressive. The system worked better than I expected, to say the least. I used the type H paper filter cartridge at first, but I soon found these worked a little too well--at least for use in my aquarium--because within no time, particulates clogged the paper filter, reducing outflow to a mere trickle. I'm not one to give up easily, and I was impressed with how well the paper filter captured particulates, so I went to the "drawing board" to create a filter cartridge with media better suited to my needs. It didn't take long for me to come up with a plan, so I disassembled the original filter, and I recycled its plastic core, along with the top and bottom pieces from the paper cartridge. Some felt fabric, a few hot glue sticks, and a hot glue gun made quick work of a more suitable cartridge for my aquarium's water. In fact, I have marveled at how well this has worked. Clean-up and filter cartridge changes are easy enough. I simply remove the cartridge I re-created every couple of weeks, or so, to clean it using a water hose with sprayer. I got 3 months of use before I replaced the felt fabric, again recycling the same parts from that original paper cartridge. While one wouldn't want to do this for one's drinking water's filtration, for my aquarium, at least, it has been a very satisfying and simple supplemental system. I can even imagine a few improvements to my redesigned cartridge, such as filling the interior (plastic core to felt fabric wall) with activated carbon. I may well do that next. I've been using it for more than a year now, and it still hasn't developed any leaks.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Product documentation does match product I just purchased this and the fittings the documented in the install guide did not match the product. I am returning this to Walmart. I called customer service and they could not tell me what fittings I needed. What kind of quality control does 3M have if they can't even get the documentation correct. What type of defects might exist in the product itself.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from very very disappointed!!! Purchased 2 of these units. 1 for sediment and the second for Churchill for smell and taste. Both units had dried out seals and cost me an extra trip to the store. The smell and taste are unchanged. Waste of time and money.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easier to install then it looks I bought my whole house filtration system a couple of weeks ago and once I got the person who was installing it, to install it correctly, it's been great. I have a well and so I get a lot of soil, sedation and small particles. Since the filtration system has been installed I have noticed my water tastes better and I also do not end up with a white film on my dishes after using the dishwasher. Price was good too.
